Description:

USB Vista Emergency Repair Disk Do you have a Vista PC or Laptop that will not boot? Blue screen of death or code errors? Endless reboots going nowhere? Vista requires you boot into the OS to fix the OS. If the Vista PC or laptop cannot boot you are stuck. New laptops and PC's typically do not come with installation media. Without this you must format and re-install, losing everything on the hard drive. Run the Windows Vista Recovery Disc from a USB RAM Key instead of having to burn it onto a CD. Good for situations where you don't want to waste a CD or when you do not have a working CD-ROM. This also lets you repair a system without having the Vista installation media! Uses freeware software and easy step-by-step instructions. Lets you boot into Vista Recovery and Rescue utilities when you cannot boot Vista on a PC or laptop. Resulting USB Key will boot up in NT / Vista or DOS. Size: 122 MB Requires at least a 128MB USB RAM Key (V1.0, V1.1, V2.0)

Two questions so far:
5) Once the USB key is formatted take the contents of the Grub4DOS package and place them onto the USB key.
Shall the be in folder or all the files in the root of the usb?
6) Take the ISO image files and place them onto the USB key. I used 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) to extract them from the ISO without burning.
Shall the isofile be unpacked, in a folder or just as it is in the iso?

Copy all directories/files from the ISO archive and Grub4DOS package onto the root of the USB drive exactly as they are in the archives.
The menu.lst file is the only thing you have to add and that also goes in the root.

Yes You will need them. But its easy, they can be found at: http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

What kind of file menu.lst

eirorinon (2011-07-29)

This is what I get after typing "GRUB" on my computer:
"Find --set-root
--ignore-floppies/menu.lst
Error 17: file not found
Press any key to continue"
And when I press a key, the options appearing do not include repairing vista. What does this mean?

I got to the black screen with it saying windows 98 and all above, and I type in "GRUB" and it don't work. Please help, thanks!
