I have the same copyright error but it comes randomly. I tried turning internet off (maybe it was checking for copy info on internet) but that doesn't do. It's not that good to try ableton live 8 for only 4 minutes and then get it to crash the sound and everything. And where is MAX FOR LIVE? boo.
I hope this will get fixed some day cause it's annoying...
But i really support ableton and when i've got the money i'll buy it. Just let me try it all now :(

I've noticed a lot of "Anonymous" trusted torrents popping up lately.. I think the true artists that usually crack our software are freaking out over the legal battles going on. Be patient and wait for a REAL release.. don't bother with this low-quality nonsense.
Live 8 is really cool, but it doesn't have so many more features that you have to ruin your Live 7 install with this low-quality release.
(btw if you want to use Live 8's new features just use Live 8 demo from their website.. the only limitation is you can't save.. but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to get around that. I've composed and saved like 3 songs in the demo so far :P)

Alright, I've really gotta give this torrent some respect. I installed it on VMware and it installed well. I ran it, I used it for like 20-30 minutes and I've got to say it ran perfectly.
When I'm installing my studio, I'm gonna be installing this for my Ableton needs. My apologies to the anonymous torrent provider (& GRB)

If you get the dreaded copy protection error try this:
DELETE the .cfg file
the .cfg file lives here:
XP C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\Ableton\Live\Preferences
restart ableton, everything should be good again!

I don't seem to be able to get this to install. It just tells me there was a serious error and shuts down. I think it probably has something to do with the way I extracted the files. What is everyone else doing that I'm not doing?

@saekla: The install is extremely simple.
The install is: "ABLETON.LIVE.v8.0.1.READ.NFO-GRB"
It's compressed in RAR format. in multiple disks like R01, R02, R03 etc.
Then each of those disks are compressed in .ZIP format.
1.) You have to extract all of the .ZIP files.
[you'll be left with a bunch of R01, R02, R03, etc. sort of files.]
2.) You select any one of those, and extract it.
[you'll be left with a folder containing the Setup.exe,
& the GRB subfolder which has "Live 8.0.1.exe"]
3.) You run Setup.exe and install it (preferably in the folder it suggests)
[DO NOT RUN LIVE just yet]
You now have the basic installation of Live 8.0.1
But now, to avoid having to authorize or register this copy of Live 8, GRB have provided you with a "Live 8.0.1.exe", in the GRB folder of this torrent, which has been modified to bypass the registration process.
4.) Replace the "Live 8.0.1.exe" that's in:
C:\Program Files\Ableton\Live 8.0.1\Program
with the new one from the GRB folder.
(You'll have to overwrite it)
5.) Now run Ableton Live 8 from your start menu.
That's it.

Note: If you have a previous install of Ableton Live (for example, Live 7) on this computer, you may not be able to install it properly.
If you still get copy protection errors, you may have another version of Live still installed. Get rid of it.
Note2: Have a firewall like Sygate or whatever running at all times when installing software like this! Don't let illegal software connect to the internet!

Ok so i've created another windows user, to see how ableton 8 would react on a user that never had any ableton releases. Guess what. It doesn't work if i open old projects, projects with ableton 7 material in it, and i guess the copy control works this way, if 7 isn't registered it gives this error, but it works FINE by using only live 8 plugins and all. So i guess i've got to get rid of 7 but that's not too bad for some people who just started using live and don't have many projects saved.
Of course that's bad for the hardcore live user.

Tryed installing on Vista with live 7 already installed and it crashed after a few minutes. Then I installed on a different computer with Vista on which no ableton products had been previously installed and it worked perfectly. No problems yet after 3 days use

ok i'm no idiot but i'm COMPLETELY lost on this one. I see a bunch of ZIP files and when I attempt to unzip the g-ableto.rar file, it's asking for the location of an .r00 file (which I know what that means, but there was no r00 file included in this torrent).
I've read the comment from user jimmay, but that doesn't help in this case. I've tried unzipping the ZIP files and unraring the RAR files.

it really doesnt work - not to a previous version user at least - and ive tried all similar releases and deleted everything previous ableton and cleaned my registry deep after uninstall and deleting hanging on files, blocked internet access, nursed the install through with strong firewall settings to make sure and no go - IF it works then i aint reinstalling windows just to clean 110% just gonna wait for a working one - and hell yeah i wanna buy it - best software out there and i want them to make more better faster harder - but my jobs shit and i aint making a penny outta my music gonna stick with my legit 7 for now - if i'm wrong then tell me what else i'm supposed to do!!!!!!!!!!!!
