The Windows 9x Project (95 OSR2.5, 98, 98SE, and ME)

Category:

Applications/Windows

Uploaded:

2009-07-27 (by themaritimeman)

Description:

This bootable ISO contains the setup files for Windows 95 OSR2.5, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), and Windows Millennium Edition (ME). The setup files are unmodified, and the product keys are included. I have included a text file that explains how to boot and use the CD. ***THERE IS A SPECIFIC PROCESS REQUIRED TO USE THIS CD, AND YOU WILL BE LEFT CLUELESS ON WHAT TO DO AFTER BOOTING IT UNLESS YOU READ THE TEXT FILE!!!*** Also on this CD are updates and enhancements for each OS, in the form of a self-extracting archive. I am not the author of this ISO. I am uploading it because although it used to be on TPB, it recently dissappeared, and I happened to have the ISO. Enjoy! EDIT: I made a mistake in the Instructions.TXT file - at the A:/> prompt, you have to type d: , press enter, THEN type setup and press enter.

Just to let everyone know, my computer is down for maitainance until tomorow. It looks like this torrent has 5 other seeders, though, so hopefully at least one will keep going until tomorow.

themaritimeman (2009-07-28)

Looks like I don't need to seed anymore. :)

philipprc (2009-08-09)

worldend3 if you have the iso mounted or if you have it burned to a cd then open up the drive you will see a windows batch file (.bat) labled 1-4 right click then click on edit the you will see the product key code and for every one else when you come to a:\ type D: then type setup

worldend3 (2009-08-12)

thank u i see it this nice copy of all 9x to keep

themaritimeman (2009-08-15)

@worldend3 - like I mentioned in the description, you have to read the Instructions.TXT file. The keys are displayed on the screen just before the setup starts so you can write them down. That's why I took the time to write the file, to save people asking me questions that are answered in it. :)
@philipprc - thanks, I forgot that you have to press d: at the a:\ prompt, and then setup. I'll edit the description right now! :)

Jack_of_Asses (2009-08-18)

How would I install this without the cd, i.e. from a separate partition?

silocky (2009-08-18)

when i try to install the OSes 1st time, it tells me to format the hard drive using fdisk, i format it then fdisk tells me to restart, and then when i restart it just says "Missing operating system" what should i doooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

themaritimeman (2009-09-06)

@Jack_of_Asses, at the A:\> prompt, you could use the command "copy d:\*.* c:\[your folder of choice]" (without the quotes) to copy the contents of the CD-ROM to the hard drive, but you would need to modify the 1/2/3/4.bat file to change the search location of the win95/win98/win98se/winme.zip file to the directory on the hard drive for everything to work. It's easiest just to boot to the CD-ROM and run the setup sequence from there.
@silocky, you have something mixed up, because FDISK does not format the hard drive, it justs partitions it. After you partition the hard drive (as one big primary partition), and exit FDISK, press CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart the computer. Then follow the instructions in the Instructions.TXT file to setup the version of Windows you wish. Remember, after you get to the A:\> prompt, you have to type d: and enter, THEN type setup and enter, and follow the instructions on the screen and in the file.

Feikki (2009-09-17)

when im instailling this on 98 from 98's boot disk comes after product key bad command or file name. Thath computer is too old from booting cd so what i can do?.

themaritimeman (2009-10-07)

@Feikki - after booting from your boot disk, switch to your hard drive, then type:
md setup98
Then switch to your CD drive and type:
pkunzip X:\win98.zip c:\setup98
(Where "X" is the letter of your CD drive.)
Then switch to your hard drive and type:
cd setup98
Then type:
setup
And that's it! If you want Windows 98 Second Edition instead of the original Windows 98 (I recommend 98SE) change "X:\win98.zip" to "X:\win98se.zip".

mac0112 (2010-03-07)

very cool project, kudos to u/l

themaritimeman (2010-03-26)

@mac0112 - Thanks a bunch! The real credit has to go to the original maker of this ISO, though - who sadly took it down many moons ago (which is why I have revived it here).

MrJinky (2010-09-15)

Very cool ISO.
Respect!

themaritimeman (2010-10-06)

@MrJinky - Thanks muchly!

pontoon (2011-04-12)

Ghost1945 (2012-11-17)

Awesome bro! I'm glad you re-uploaded it!

boots2asses58 (2012-11-20)

Your a living legend man thanks for this! You help a lot of people re-live their childhood because of this. I'll be seeding.

1631991 (2012-12-30)

Could this ISO be used for a VM. I attempt so but all I get is either "cannot copy file" or "missing operating system" errors. Also, could anyone please give me an instruction on how to format a partitioned disk after exiting from fdisk? If I reset as fdisk tells me to, the second aforementioned error shows up and I cannot go beyond it. Thank you :)

bitamihai (2013-02-28)

There is way too much awesomeness in this pack.
I have an old PC: AMD K6 500MHz, MMX
64MB SDRAM (recently upgraded to 256MB)
nVidia Riva TNT2 64, 32MB
10GB HardDrive...
...or, as I like to call it, my time machine :D
"We need to go back in time"

cmcstudios (2013-09-28)

Excellent project......but beware everyone, these 4 OSs are VERY hardware intolerant. You may find your PC is TOO modern for them.
For example, too much memory in Win95 can cause IOS windows protection errors. Too fast a processor in Win98 FE or SE can give NDIS windows protection errors, Both are solvable but very difficult. You may have to take out RAM chips or downgrade your CPU.
Tip: instead of using fdisk from this CD, connect your drive to a working Windows OS, and from Disk Management create your DOS partition and make it active and format it from there. If it is a big hard disk, don't make the partition too big - check Google but 5-10GB is usually sufficient. Then just go straight to d:setup and say No to format disk.

XenonKilla (2014-01-28)

Just a heads up, the Windows 95 version in this torrent is NOT OSR 2.5 v4.03.1216 The build included in this torrent is actually OSR 2 v4.00.1111

XenonKilla (2014-01-28)

Cancel that, I was checking the version from the command prompt from within Windows which shows 4.00.1111, however I just checked the System Properties and it does indeed show 4.00.950 C

ifytbairz (2014-03-12)

so I've downloaded this application and I'm interested in installing it on a virtual machine. I've done two things that I thought would work but haven't and I'm hoping someone can help me.
I've mounted the .iso on my host machine and pointed a virtual machine to the virtual CD drive. I'm able to follow the steps all the way up to "A:/setup" but when I run "setup", I just get an error that says the command is invalid. I dir the A:/ drive and there is no "setup" script in the directory. is this correct?
the second attempt is the same thing, but mounting the .iso directly through the virtual machine.

pontoon (2014-03-30)

Works fine. Thank's a lot

Creyz1 (2014-04-18)

@ifytbairz
I get the same error, not sure how to go from here

Creyz1 (2014-04-18)

Nevermind, you have to switch to D: then setup

Creyz1 (2014-04-18)

Update for Win95, I had to go through the Fdisk otherwise I didnt have a C:, after that it works
Serial didnt work for me , heres a working one :

Chaoscreater22 (2014-04-25)

I am using Virtual box to install Windows 95 from this, i burned the ISO to a disc. I get the point where the command prompt says A:.
From there I format the c: drive on the virtual computer.
Now i am back to A:
What do i type to get this working from the disc i made?

Chaoscreater22 (2014-05-02)

@themaritimeman
I started virtual box, rant bootup, ran setup from the win98 file. I CD c: and did md setup98. No errors. Went back to E: (my cd drive) typed in "pkunzip E:win98se.zip c:setup98" and i get bad command or file name.

Rattle189 (2015-02-14)

AWESOME TORRENT! Just finished downloading it and will seed, this truly brings nostalgia and I can finally study the older Operating Systems.
