Stepbrothers.720p.AC3 5.1. Excellent quality and audio. It has been converted from .mkv to .m2ts which now allows it to be played over a network, or downloaded to the harddrive, on the PS3 unlocking it's media abilities. PS3 is unable to play .mkv. This conversion will allow all the luxeries of a regular disk. By using the .m2ts container you are now able to play, pause, FF, and RW from the comfort of your chair. I don't have a link to anything but I'll tell ya how about that :)
Download MKVextract to separate the h264 and audio file.
Download h264info.exe to convert the h264 file from level 5.1 to level 4.1(the PS3 needs level 4.1)
Download txmuxergui.exe to the take the AC3 file, the one you separated during first step, and the video file you converted using the second step, to put them together into one new file. Just make sure you call it m2ts.

Jokklas as far as I know the container does hold subtitles. It is still in it's infancy but is very durable.

just use mkv2vob.. converts hd mkv to .vob .mgp .m2ts .ts in a single click.. ps3 compatible

Yeah, I know I can mkv2vob things but rather have video "as is" with separate stream for subs. Dont think mkv2vob does that? (might have changed since I tried it out last time)
Will dig a bit regarding the container and PS3 compatible subtitle streams.
The only thing I know so far to work is in the avi container (using AVIAddXSubs).

MKV2VOB only handles .mkv files with AC3 audio. Many of these files have 5.1 DTS that need to be converted to 5.1 AC3

so why use m2ts? ps3 cant play subs in any container except the the divx container so m2ts is completely unnecessary since mkv2vob gives excellent quality and one-click convertion tool..
@ mr fubar: since i dont really care about the sound except that i wanna be able to hear it, it isnt a problem for me... i think the sound of all the outputs of mkv2vob are good.. converted or not, i hear no difference..
