remind me never to build my own house, firstly Kevin McCloud always has bad things to say before the house is half finished :D and secondly, nearly every person on this show gets thier wife pregnant as soon as they start...

Saying bad things and installing a climate of fear in the beginning of the construction is just part of the show!! Otherwise, no tension, no doubts... just a boring building process!
Oh and for the children problem...
One trick would be to build a SMALL house with just one room, and if you ever build a second room (you know, just in case), make sure it's somewhere dark, moist and scary! That way you'll think twice before having children in this house!
