This may be a stupid question, but is the initial sudo code that needs to be pasted into Terminal exact, or does the file path need to be adjusted?
I get to the point of opening Photoshop to click "Deactivate", only "Deactivate" is grayed out and I can't click it. Will the software work if just a serial is entered?

I followed your instructions up to where you start photoshop. When I started it, it had the options of starting the trial or entering a serial. I entered the serial and it works. (At the start of the installation I did click trial). Just wanted to say, incase it helps anybody.

It worked perfectly for me, except when I quit photoshop and opened it again, Adobe Application Manager popped up and it asked for a serial number or to use it as a trial.
I entered the first serial number, which I used the first time, and it didn't work. But using another serial number did.

btw - for ppl having problems w/ entering your password in terminal
1.) it's your OSX password - your main account password
2.) there is no cursor, when you are typing, you are entering text. just hit return and all will be well.

If not, uninstall and do that... And make sure your host file is right :)

The reason the Deactivate is gray is because you are opening it as a trial. try and put in the serial number and then deactivate.

@hazmatt23 Any chance you can write a comment on the EXACT steps you took in the exact order you did them? (did you patch the host file before downloading PS? Did "Deactivate" show up for you or did it stay grayed out?) Did it not attempt to make you activate and if it did, what did you do? I've tried a half dozen times and nothing is working.

I followed all and deactivate was initially greyed out but accepted serial. it works ok but when I open photoshop all panes are seen but the previous page or window remains as background, some portion of desk top is seen as background. The logo ps at left corner is greyed .Now deactivate is seen and should i deactivate and follow steps

@shrikanthnh Thats how photoshop works you will be able to see the background or any other windows that are up... all you have to do is go to file, new, and then pick your file type like US paper or w/e. and my serial number worked fine and my PS is grayed out too so i assume all is well lol just waiting for some conformation from cyberpiraten.

I don't know if I did this correctly, so can someone please advise. I followed all the instructions, my host files are correctly modified, yet after I enter the serial number (valid, I get the green check mark), am I just supposed to click close or do I click continue? Because if I click continue, it takes me to the activation page and it seems that nothing I am doing is "fooling" adobe's servers because it's asking me for an adobe login or to create one. Is this normal and should I just press continue? Every time I open PS, the Adobe Activation manager pops up asking for either the serial or to continue the trial. Is this supposed to happen? At what point does the Adobe Activation stop popping up, if ever?

The serial that came with the download was missing two digits and I had to come here where you list a completely different (and more than one) serial in the info and it worked. Don't understand what all the steps were for - The "Deactivate" wasn't an option so I essentially bypassed that step.

@thunderbird7799: go to applications folder, search for terminal. It should pop up.
@jose.b-happy: did you press "enter/return" after step 4? they will probably ask for your password (macbook account password) after which if you entered the right one, the "host" window should pop up

Thanks, it worked great. I guess the hardest thing for me was figuring out what "terminal" was. haha. I had to google the word to find out. What threw me off was step 7. I had no idea whether not "Flush:" was apart of the code. I ended up just closing the terminal and reopening it and just posted the line below flush:. It asked for my PW again and then worked fine. I am following everything to the T, but when I open photoshop and go to help, the deactivate option is greyed out so I cannot click it.
When I try to bypass that detail, and put in a serial number (which works fine) then I get to the input Abobe ID, which I do...but then it comes up in the end saying it is "unable to activate at this time" and to contact customer support if it continues. (something I of course would never do.)
I have tried multiple times now and nothing works. Always stuck with the "unable to activate at this time"
Any help here? It would be very much appreciated.

Ahhh ignore my last comment; For everyone having trouble with the deactivation step, it didn't work for me, so I just skipped it. To clarify for anyone else who has trouble with the Step Seven like I did, simply run "new command", enter your password, then when the process is complete, enter one of the serials, IGNORE the deactivation step. Worked like a charm and saved me SO much money I didn't have! Thanks so much, Cyberpiraten, you're a true hero!

It worked to use some of the other serials, but it only works until the next time you start the program, then it will notice that also the new serial is invalid.

After step 5 Save the hosts file by pressing control+O followed by enter. Press control + X to exit the editor.
Continue to step 7. Haven't tried it myself but it should work.

Worked flawlessly, just make sure to click "patch host file" button.

1. Installed trial version CS5
2. Closed CS5
3. Ran core keygen using patch host file button before generating keygen
4. Closed core keygen
5. Ran CS5 and deactivated permanently
6. Closed CS5
7. Opened CS5
8. Used generated keygen

Hi, I had a 30 day trial installed, I followed the instructions but i can't "deactivate". The deactivate button is greyed-out.
Any ideas?
Also everytime I start the program, I get a pop-up asking to enter serial number or continue as trial. I enter the serial number and then it wants me to login with an adobe ID and PW. I enter it and get a "We are unable to start your subscription for adobe photoshop cs5.1 extended subscription edition"
I suspect it can't connect because I have my hosts file blocking the entries in the instructions.

I downloaded the trial and it accepted my serial number. And I was able to modify hosts file. However my "Deactivate" button is greyed-out. Any ideas how to fix?

Great!! Took me a bit to figure everything out, but eventually got it. On Lion you need to use the terminal command
sudo open -t /etc/hosts
instead of
sudo /etc/hosts
AND on top of that you need to unlock the textedit thing that comes up as soon as you do that, or else nothing will be saved. Tada! Great torrent!

Everyone that has upgraded to Lion, Apple have locked the hosts file so using the old Sudo code won't work.
In order to access hosts now open terminal and enter (sudo nano /etc/hosts) Without the brackets of course.
Once you're in paste the text as it says in the instructions, you must use your arrow keys to scroll down and across inside the terminal. Once you have done this press ctrl + x followed by enter. Do not use cmd + S as this will only save the file into your documents.

Ok guys I have had some trouble getting this to work on lion but this is how I got it working after much trial and error!
1. open terminal

Im running lion which i recently upgraded from snow leopard.
1. Install Photoshop from the DMG file provided
2. Use the 30 day trial period to get onto Photoshop when its installed
3. Go to the terminal and enter
sudo open -e /etc/hosts
4. The terminal will change style,
5. Open the .txt document provided called (This is how the host file should look.txt)
6. Copy EVERYTHING!!!! into the terminal
7. then press CTRL > + > X together
6. A menu will appear at the bottom press Y then enter
7. In the same terminal enter
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache
8. The mac will ask for your password, enter it then hit enter
9. Close the terminal and re-open Photoshop
10. Enter one go these serial numbers

This works, took me a while. I was frustrated like everyone else here having a hard time with adobe suite. I kept cleaning off and reinstalling because of the Application manager prompt popping up. On a third try. It popped up again. After the terminal drill, reset host application, etc. So I just follow the instructions that adobe stated to do. Download application manager (don't do it) or reinstall. I reinstalled. or attempted to the point where you can add a serial # or do trial. 3rd trial, I skipped the trial. I just went through the list of serials. And one worked. Now, the who suite works. Make sure you have little snitch. Good luck

The deactivation feature is for people who run two (or maybe more) copies of Photoshop on LAN on different computers. To use Photoshop on the second computer you need to deactivate it on the first one. Not sure that's exactly how it is but that's the idea. I keep it activated and use it on one Mac. IMO the 'activation/deactivation has nothing to do with successfully cracking.
And those who have not entered serial yet have the choice to deactivate greyed out, it only becomes active choice once you enter good serial #
(but then as I said you can leave it activated if you don't plan to run another copy of the program on another computer at home. In fact to run this copy I think it has to be activated or maybe it activates automatically once you start the program - provided good serial was entered originally.)
BTW I would just ignore this thing about malware, I don't know about anything and have it installed since this spring.
I believe you can print but I am not the user of the Mac in question, will test it tomorrow.

Download a free program called 'Little Snitch'. Don't worry about the hosts file, you won't need to change it in the way noted in the torrent. Install as normal, when prompted for a serial during installation click 'trial version'. Once installed (make sure little snitch is running too), run the program - it will immediately prompt you for another serial. enter one of these:

ok this morning it appears that I must of done something wrong because the little snitch program opened a window saying the demo was over and that I needed to buy it. If you're getting errors at step 4 read this
Basically what you want to enter is
sudo open -t /etc/hosts/ /etc/hosts
If you have trouble at step 5 in text edit (which is where this didn't work when my friend tried it)
go to the torrent download > hosts folder > open the document that says 'this is how the host file should look'
I copied the text in that instructions file and put it into my mac's text edit document (easiest way to make sure there isn't any error on your part when editing the text)
after this all the steps worked. Before doing this I DID NOT get the option to decative, I didn't even get it blocked out - it just wasnt there. Some of you tried entering a serial - maybe so that you could actually be active as to deactive. I thought this anyway and I tried it because I wasn't understanding why it wasn't working.
Anyway do what I suggested for step 5 and you will be able to deactive. after that all the steps work just fine. If some of the serials provided in instructions don't work don't worry - any working serial will do.
Hope this helps for anyone that's having trouble. I could be wrong, but as I said, it works for me now. I opened and closed the program a few times to make sure I wouldn't be asked for a serial again and it's fine.
You will need an Adobe ID to enter after deactivating - do this. A thank you screen from adobe will come up. Basically you now have the software, Adobe thinks it's registered. There really should be no more problems. If I get any more problems I'll try solving them and post anything useful. But I think this should be it. This is my first time using a Photoshop torrent so there was a bit of confusion but it's ended well.

thank you bananatechs! i followed your instructions and i got the deactivate button, however, it was greyed out. i entered a serial # and i was then provided with the option to deactivate and i did. i then went to re-open (install?) photoshop, and it prompted me for another serial # or to try the trial version...i've tried entering all the ones available on the instructions for this torrent and they are all invalid .. it did however, allow me the opportunity to trial for another 30 days as i had already used up 20 from the previous trail...so this method may work for me unless i can find a way to install it permanently...deactivate then re-install trail lol

for people who are copying the text from the "this is how the Host file should look.txt" there is one typo which i found.
in the file it says "255.255.255.255 brodcasthost"
where it should say "255.255.255.255 broadcasthost"
before i changed it the deactivate button was still greyed out. i just noticed the little typo and changed it and worked perfectly after that :) hope it helps some of you guys!

Thanks to bananatechs, this was relatively easy to figure out.... even if you don't really know how to use terminal. After changing and saving the hosts file, I opened photoshop back up and it asked again what type of account I wanted. Since I couldn't follow the disable steps through the free trial (I had already tried twice), I decided to just try entering one of the registration codes and it worked perfectly.

Ok guys, I just want to personally THANK CyberPiraten for this. I've tried almost every single well-seeded Photoshop, without any success. If you follow his instructions EXACTLY, it should work out just great. I've seen a LOT of you having trouble with different things, so here are my updated instructions:
1.Open [Software] folder, and run Photoshop_12_LS1.dmg.
2.Install Photoshop CS5.
3. Open Adobe Photoshop CS5, and select option to install it as a trial, you may enter your Adobe ID if you want to - it won't hurt.
3. Quit Photoshop, or if want you can use it for the next 29 days, either way, whatever you want :)
4.Open the 'Terminal' application and paste the following:
/etc/hosts

5. A new line should prompt you for your password. When you type, you will not be able to see it. Hit enter, and if you entered your password correctly, it should open up a TextEdit window titled "Hosts".
6. In most cases, the file will be locked (in grey text next to the title). Click the text 'locked' (in the title bar it should say Hosts - Locked) and select unlock.
7. If it is unable to unlock, open terminal again and paste the command $ sudo nano /private/etc/hosts

Hi looking for some help. Got as far as the textedit 'hosts'. the file is locked won't let me edit it. tried using radioactiveweather's code 'sudo nano /private/etc/hosts' but doesn't unlock the 'hosts' file. Any ideas? please and thank you

hi
when i get to step 8 adobe application manager opens and asks for a serial # or gives the option to continue the free trial. under the help menu there is no option to deactivate.
at first i just entered a serial # and then deactivated ...
but every time i open photoshop it asks for the serial # again.
i tried uninstalling, reinstalling, using the different activation block lists. the same thing always happens.
what am i doing wrong???

Thank you so much!! I was worried that it would be hard to do, but it just downloaded on my Mac with no problems. Just get the torrent. Open up Applications and run it (As a trial version) after it downloads.
Then close it and reopen. When it reopens, Put the serial number (the second one down on the serial number list in the notes *instructions are in the App folders after you download it.) when it asks you for it and it will work perfectly. Yay!!

Ok. I know what I'm doing on a Mac and with the terminal. So I am completely stumped as to why, after completing each step as indicated that every time I open PS CS5 it asks me for a new serial number. Why?
It may be the sudo dscacheutil -flushcache
step as I'm not sure where to put that other than in a new terminal window and press enter. Am I doing something wrong here.
Super frustrated that it's working for others but not for me.
Please help!

Ok, I just reviewed some other comments and decided to skip the whole 'deactivate' step and just enter a valid serial. I've opened and closed PS now 5 times and it seems to be working fine without 'deactivating' anything.
Is there anything I should be worried about if I don't 'deactivate permanently?' I only plan to use the program on one computer.

thanks this worked really well. I used the serial number that hennahsheikh used and just used a file hack to change the langauge to english :)

I'm not sure if this will answer any questions, but this is how I managed to get it.
I have Mountain Lion (10.7) and followed the directions here on how to edit a host file:
It says:
1. Launch Terminal , found in /Applications/Utilities/ or launched through Spotlight
2. Type the following command at the prompt:
sudo nano /private/etc/hosts
3. Enter the administrator password when requested, you will not see it typed on screen as usual with the command line
4. Once the hosts file is loaded within nano, use the arrow keys to navigate to the bottom of the hosts file to make your modifications
Note: You should copy the modifications (Step 5 in the torrent directions) from "This is how the Host file should look.txt" in the [Hosts] folder inside the Adobe Photoshop folder. However, beware that it has a typo: it says "brodcasthost" instead of "broadcasthost"
5. When finished, hit Control+O followed by ENTER/RETURN to save changes to /private/etc/hosts, then hit Control+X to exit out of nano
6. Quit out of Terminal when finished
Then go straight to step 7 of the torrent directions
After this, I closed out of everything and opened Photoshop. the "Deactivate" button was greyed out, so I just entered one of the serial numbers when it prompted me to do so, and it's been working ever since. (I exited out multiple times and it never once asked me to re-enter the serial number like it did before.)
I'm not sure if I butchered this in the most retarded way possible (I am NOT computer savvy), but it worked for me (...for now!)

Hi! First of all I wanted to thank you for this, it's really great. I did everything as it says and almost everything is going fine except that i can't import > video frames to layers. When I do click video frames to layers it grays out mp4 files. It does make .avi files available but when i click on them all the layers are just black and nothing works...
I uninstalled and reinstalled photoshop but it still isn't working?
