I love this game. Thanks.xheffalump (2008-11-29)
Thanks so much for this! I've played this game since I was a kid, but recently I found out that my CDs were damaged so the game froze at a certain point.I hate to be a pain, but I need a little pointer ... the game installed just fine (I did the full installation so I wouldn't need to keep swapping CDs), yet when I try to run the game, the first screen comes up and then it just closes itself down.
I've tried changing the compatability, mounting all of the CDs and nothing works. I don't think it's Vista because it ran just fine on my other PC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, please comment back or e-mail me at : chemicalxterror@hotmail.co.uk

Apparently a codec that starship titanic uses was updated in windows service pack 2 causing problems in the game try downloadingftp://ftp.probo.com/pub/cinepak/cvid32.zip
(official codec from the people who invented it) and then putting the two files there your program folder for Starship Titanic, the game should work. If your leery of downloading a file, you can go to the starship titanic website and they link to the codec.iamz3r0 (2010-09-21)
I'm seeding at a decent speed, so get it and seed while you can. If you have Windows 7, be sure to get the cVid update and the Smartheap Library. I've got Windows 7 x64, and I use both of the below files, run as an administrator, and in Windows Vista (Service Pack 1) compatibility mode.cVid
ftp://ftp.probo.com/pub/cinepak/cvid32.zip
Smartheap
ftp://ftp.mackichan.com/download/sh33w32.dll
If anyone has any questions, check out www.westwindpmc.net and send me a PM.

Thanks to the uploader and to everyone here providing help on how to get it running on modern machines.can confirm that iamz3r0's solution indeed works on w7 x64!

Need more seeders!Flatulent (2013-10-07)
Finally finished downloading. Props to iamz3r0 and the other commentors for tips on getting this working in Windows 7 x64.BCTop (2014-05-23)
Another confirmation this excellent example of Douglas' humour STILL makes me laugh decades later AND works on Win7 x64.Mount and install the game from the 3 CD images, run the 'official' patch from voronin's comment (Thanks!), get the two files in iamz3r0's comment (Thanks to you too!), and copy both DLLs into the installation directory after you rename any existing stackheap DLL to get it out of the way.
And watch out for starships landing on your house!

Whoops. My cell point settings are as wonky as a doorbot. I forgot to add at the end to set your 'compatibility mode' on ST.exe to something appropriately elderly like Win98.Thanks for the upload. My original discs are buried somewhere in a box in the garage and it was great to have at the puzzles again all these years later. Cheers!
