Im using a macbook running 10.5.3. Im not sure if the resolution can be higher. The macbook doesnt have enough graphic power.
THis is an intel only game. because its running on cider.
It doesnt crash, but you have to press down some keys when its starting. if you dont press any key after the nvidea logo it will end black.
But if you press some keys it will show the gta logo and continue normally

Ritzomaniac: I spent half a year of fixing the mouse problem, and to get it to work on macbook. so i dont know what i have done exactly.

I seem to have figured it out. Heres how I've gotten it to work consistantly 4x in a row.
1. Have a mouse connected to your computer. My specs are Macbook 2.4ghz 4 GB ram. with USB logitech mouse. (this is important. I could not get the game to launch up without crashing passed the nvidia logo without mashing my mouse buttons)
2. Launch the game.
3. Click on your mouse and mash buttons on your keyboard nonstop until the NVIDIA logo disappears. (It may hang for a second or two and you will see the NVIDIA logo grayed out still there in the background)
4. IMMEDIATELY STOP MASHING BUTTONS! Do not press anything after you see the GTA logo now.
CAUTION: If you continue to mash at the wrong moment after the GTA logo comes up the game will crash.
5. You should now be at the menu, if you aren't simply hit 'return'.
Observations: The mouse does NOT work in the menus (navigate with the keyboard) HOWEVER, it does work perfectly in game. (the mouse seems stuck and anti-aliasing nonstop in the middle of the screen in the menu)
If people cannot still get it to work. I will try to help. I am not the author of this however, so he may no better. I merely figured this out by playing around with it until I finally figured out how to boot it up right.
PS: Author plz include some more DIRECT directions instead of button mashing. Or maybe it is perhaps that primitive. Oh well. Have fun gaming.

ok...worked for me...I use a gamepad so not worried about the mouse, but had problems with the first cider port random crashes. This one runs better and ALL the functions work...nice job...

ok people, unofficial cider will not play opening credits from pc games, battlefield 2, battlefield 2142, ect, ect... I am looking into the problem right now, but you do not have to restart your computer just

right click on san andreas>show package contents and delete open_url
looks like it is trying to start a gametap intro or going to a url somewhere.
start game. you should see the nvidia start to blink just hit the space bar

BTW: for some reason the preference folder for this game is in /library not in(user)/library but you might want to delete that before starting the game again

For people where GTA:SA is crashing just after opening (only a Dock icon appears, and then nothing), here is the solution:
It boils down to a problem with permissions. These have to be set correctly for the program to work.
- First of all, open Terminal which you need to change permissions. Terminal is located in /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app or find it using spotlight.
- In Terminal, cd to the GTA:SA application -- if you don't know how, follow these instructions:
- type "cd" followed by a space
- then open Finder and locate your GTA San Andreas application (the one you double-click to launch GTA:SA). - Drag the GTA San Andreas application to the Terminal. - The Terminal screen at this point should say: "cd /path/to/GTA/SA/GTA\ San\ Andreas.app"
- Press Enter
- To set the correct permissions you have to type in exactly this command:
"find . -type d -exec chmod -v 755 '{}' \;"
- Press Enter, and type in this one:
"find . -type f -exec chmod -v 644 '{}' \;"
- Press Enter again.
If for some reason these commands fail first try "sudo -s" and press Enter. After gaining root privileges you can retry the two commands above.

Hello folks, sorry for not got this to work for everyone. i just got it to work on my macbook 2.1 1,83Ghz 4GB ram.
I cant tell whats the problem when i dont have no more than one computer.
But try this:
Find gta san andreas file, second click it and show package contents. contents/resources/preferences/config. open in text edit. look through the file and there are several preferences in the text. some you canchoose by changing the letter: Y(yes) N(no) A(auto).
you could also try to changing the resolution, you can see the numbers somewhere in the text.
If this doesnt work, you can try the same thing in the pref. file in Library/Preferences/Gta\ San\ Andreas\ Preferences
Remeber to backup the file youre changing to desktop or something.

When mine was crashing (in game, mind you) it was because "Widescreen" was on. Try going into the application's ("Show Package Contents", etc) preferences and change some of the settings like resolution, etc, etc. I have no idea but it's worth a shot.
Also, if the other version of SA for Mac on this site works for you then maybe try taking the preferences from this one and replacing it (remember to make a back up) for the other SA's preferences. That way, in theory, you'll have a SA that will run for you and the mouse will work. Again, worth a shot, at least.

Well I turned it off in-game because it was crashing during a mission so it probably won't help you if you can't even get into the game.
Try going into the actual GTA folder inside the app ('Show Package Contents' -> San Andreas) and rooting around in there.

Jake, I can't vouch for SA MP but when I tried installing Hot Coffee it screwed up my game for whatever reason. So make sure you have a back up if you're going to install a mod.
Also, it seems as if the people who are having problems are having problems with running the game on their laptops. If you can get the game to run on your laptop post (with some degree of detail) your specs and do the same if you can't and maybe we can try and see what the differences are and find the problem.

Hey guys. This is just a wild guess, but try changing your screen resolutions. I'm on a mac-mini, but my screen res is 1024 x 768 and it runs. Also, I think that's what Jeff93 set it at. So, perhaps, that would be a solution as I see both of you guys who posted your specs had a higher resolution and I don't think the game goes up that high.

You both must remember that integrated graphics shares RAM, so the more RAM you have the better, the uploader had 4GB , moster only has 2GB. GEt more RAM and this should work

i just foud something IMPORTANT out....everybody with macbooks, READ THIS!

!If you need a crack. First check the game version, and get the crack that matchs your game version. few things that can make crack doesnt work:
1. most cracks are very old like 2 or 3 years, and wont work with the latest OS.
2. some games require you to emulate cd images, using virtual cd porgram, like alcohol 120% or deamon tools.

This game works fine on my Hackintosh (10.5.4 Leopard installed on a HP laptop)
1. One problem I have is just that sometimes the game crashes on loading, the way I overcome that is by smashing the enter key repeatedly until the main game screen comes up.
2. For those who wants to use their savegames from their Windows machine, just put the savegame files themselves (you can also port over your keyboard/mouse configuration file) into the folder Files/Rockstar Games/GTA San Andreas/data (you get there by right-clicking on the .app file and selecting "Show Package Contents"

This is how i got it to work (simple):
1. first i downloaded the torrent
2. unzipped the file
3. doubleclicked the unzipped file
4. the game started
5. at som point at the start the game freezed. all i saw was a blinking/blurry image.
6. to get through the freeze i just had to click the mouse a couple of times...
7. then the GTA: SA logo appeared! :D

When I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard I got a Black screen just like you did (except with Vice City and not SA). The solution that fixed it for me was upgrading the Cider. Search for a recent Cider release and then try swapping it in. (Be sure to back up your game in case it screws it up, etc).

if a key is set to more than one action it may not work properly.
to lift objects the lift must be the lowest possible, its not soo easy.
also, some keys like left control, and enter simply can't be used in the game by some strange problem, in case you are trying to use them

the game thinks my spacebar is the "S" key :(
in the second mission I have to get a haircut and to select a haircut I have to press the spacebar.

This is the third time I'm downloading this torrent, and each time I unzip it it works okay. So this is what I did to keep it from crashing:
-Open the game
-BEFORE you see the nVidia logo, begin to tap the space bar quickly
-The logo might freeze for a minute, but eventually you should see the main menu
-I made it run the best by changing graphics quality to "LOW" (still looks fine) and resolution to 1280x800

Game will run perfectly (~30 minutes) up to some point at which there is intermittent slowdown/speedup. Occurs independent of graphics settings, section in game, etc. Possibly related to overheating, as computer gets very hot, and closing it for a period of time sometimes works.

For all of you who cannot get past the nvidia logo, benisbling's reply on page 11 did the trick.
Basically, as soon as the logo disappears and you get the black screen, just press as many keys on the keyboard (gentle bashing) and it'll work =)
I keep pressing a, s, d, f, space bar, enter randomly... worked 15 times out of 15 so far..

very good game, better than my shitty pc version of vice city. when opening the game, when you get to the very first producer screen, just start pressing keys on your keyboard until the nvidia screen comes up....continue doing this until the nvidia screen goes away, then you will see the gta sa screen, all should be well after this. mouse working perfectly, the only flaw/problem is some buildings/ground surfaces are different, ie: when i see a building that looks like its a giant burger shot advertisement, i get closer to it to find out what it really looks like. can get quite annoying, however a really good game.

Coupla points:
If the game freezes after the NVidia logo, just gently tap space (or any other button) before and during the sequence.
For anyone worried about the mouse "not working" in the menus, it's not really supposed to. While paused, use the arrow keys and "return".
I'm going to try to download this, just deleted another copy of GTA:SA yesterday. Hopefully I don't have the same framerate issues in this copy.

Hi, first of all i want to say thanks to the creator of this awesome torrent. Well my problem is the following, everything works fine, the startup (with the button mash) the camera, however there s a major glitch i want to report. CJ keeps turning left, and makes the game unplayable, even inside vehicles the glitch persistes. Aalso another thing, apparently this glitch is not only present on San Andreas (at least my version), it is also present on another game, NFS Most Wanted (Cider Port of course), suggesting that it may a be a cider flaw. Anyone have this problem? Can anyone help me?

it doesn't work when i just click the icon extracted from the .zip file. when i open GTA San Andreas-> Contents-> Resources-> transgaming-> c_drive-> Rockstar Games-> GTA San Andreas, and then open gta_sa.exe with crossover. it works! but super laggy during the game, and then eventually quited automatically. can anyone help please?

If you encounter freeze after nvidia logo, rename the directory named "Movies" to any other names, since your mac need not playing the title animations, game menu will show immediately after nvidia logo.

I have a problem that I think was posted earlier but was never really addressed. When I go to the haircut mission near the very beginning, I can't seem to actually get the haircut. @Yooooitsjenn, you done that car hydraulics level yet? if not just go on change vehicle controls and change the special controls to whatever buttons suit you (I used the arrow keys).
all in all the hydraulics are pointless unless in the desert or the "car dancing" bit.

Press "esc" key while playing --> "Options" --> "Keyboard and Mouse" --> "Réassigner commandes" (in french) then press "delete" key and the key you want to use.
If you want to use the key "z", it's normal if you see written an other key, as for example "e" or something like that but it will be always the key "z" for playing ;-)
Use the keys z,q,s,d (for an azerty) and an USB mouse, it's the best thing i found for gaming =)

It's a Cider port, don't expect too much. If it works on the poster's Mac and few others, it's probably because he has the white MB with integrated video and it's not strangling his GPU. You can't release a Cider port that was only tested on your hardware and expect it to work on just any Mac.

Honestly guys, if you want to play San Andreas on a Mac, it would be much easier to use Crossover Games. It's rated at gold-level compatibility so you don't have to worry about the mouse not working or anything. That's how I have it on my 2009 White MacBook and it works just fine.
Just install a cracked version of CrossOver Games, then mount the GTA installer disc image and install like you would on Windows. Then find the virtual C:\ Drive and replace the original .exe with the cracked one like you would on Windows.
That worked a lot better for me than this, which didn't work at all. Saves a lot of trouble and you don't have to fiddle around with it. Just a tip.
(Well, actually, I should note that Crossover doesn't seem to register the Mac's TAB or COMAND buttons, but there are ways around that.)

This thing works but with several issues, particularly while loading and the space bar key(for me at least). And the graphics are very lame. But the gameplay is fine, I actually completed it thrice and it was a good game to have on a Mac. You can even mod things to a small extent though you wont be able to use custom tracks and such.
If you want to play as it was meant to be played(a very noticeable graphics difference), partition your drive and install Windows. I'd suggest Win7 but if you're low on disk space this works on XP too. If your graphics card is 320m series or newer you'd even be able to play GTA 4 smoothly with Windows.

@sergon u need a driver called controller mate it costs $15 but its well worth it u can configure the buttons to watever u like thats what i use to play the game and it werks great if u do decide to purchase theres some good vids on youtube to show you how to configure it

Well im seeding this but im not happy, using my (MAC BOOK PRO 2010 version) on the start up everything starts up perfect then the screen will shoot straight to black and do nothing full computer freeze. One time though it fired up completely and i played and the game was picture perfect everything, V:10 A:10. But that stupid black screen at the beginning. It means it has a processor from Intel, e.g. Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel i5, etc. To find out if your Mac is Intel, press the Apple logo in the top left, and choose the one at the very top which says something like "About this Mac". In the processor section, it should say if it is Intel based

However, I am having one problem with the PS3 controller connection. I can assign buttons just fine for it and everything works dandy except for the right analog stick which turns extremely slowly when playing. Am wondering if there's any solution to this problem? If it crashes at the Nvidia logo, rename the folder "Movies". Right click on the application icon and select, "show package contents" navigate to: gamesGTA San Andreas and rename "movies" to anything. In-game related issue:
When selecting activities at the gym, or at a tattoo parlor, etc., the game instructions tell you to press SPACE to select a given option (for exemple, weight to be lifted at the gym, location desired for a tatto at the tattoo parlor). The thing is: SPACE doesn't select anything, but move down the selection bar. Anyone knows how to solve this? Thanks

Tried this on a macbook pro (15 inch, mid 2009, 2.53ghz, 8gb ram) running 10.6.8. It works out of the box, just unzip and run, and it works. As some comments suggest, if you have a version of mac os x higher than 10.6.8 the game is most likely not to run.
But even on a supported version of mac os x, not everything is "working perfect." The torrent description says that the mouse is working perfect, but actually you can't move the mouse in the menu, you can only use the keyboard. Only while playing, the mouse works "perfect." I also encountered two major issues:
1. The keyboard controls are messed up and you can't reassign all of them (for example I can't reassign the shift key to sprint).
2. It's playable, but even with the frame limiter turned off it's not very smooth. (it's at around 25 fps)
On a windows xp virtual machine on the same computer, the original windows version of gta sa (that you have to get from another torrent if you didn't buy it) runs at 50+ fps at nearly all settings turned up. I really recommend going the virtual machine route instead of downloading and using this torrent. Plus it works on versions higher than 10.6.8. The 3gb of hard drive space, 1gb of ram (even just 512mb if you have a mac with not so great specs) and time to set up a windows xp vm (parallels or vmware fusion are recommended, but virtualbox which is free should also work, and don't forget to install vmware tools/parallels tools/virtualbox guest additions on the vm after setting up windows) are worth it for a more stable, smooth and enjoyable game experience if you want to play gta sa on your mac without buying it.
Another route which is still better than this torrent is using the mac app store version of gta sa, but I couldn't find it here on tpb. If you have the app, just upload it and include instructions on how to replace the masreceipt folder with one from any free app from the mac app store, which is less time consuming than setting up a windows vm.
I still prefer the vm route though, because over there you have a full version of windows, which lets you install mods and that kind of stuff. Windows xp is a light os and in a vm it will not hinder your mac's performance. But I can't and don't want to tell you what to do. I just gave you some advice on how to play gta sa on your mac by looking at the pros and cons of each way to do so.

THIS DOES WORK WITH WINE!
FOLLOW thekn1 instructions and then press SPACE repeatedly until game starts
thekn1 instructions:
1. Unzip
2. Show Package Content
3. Go to Games
4. Move the "GTA San Andreas" Folder to your desktop
5. Right Click on "gta_sa.exe" and open it with Winebottler/Wine
6. Follow the steps and at the last part, allow Winebottler/Wine to change your resolution
7. WORKS!!
