Thea Von Harbou, esposa de Fritz Lang y autora asimismo de la novela "Metrópolis", escribió un guión que dividió en dos partes: LA MUERTE DE SIGFRIDO y LA VENGANZA DE KRIMILDA. Estrenadas en Berlín en febrero y abril de 1924 fueron recortadas hasta reducir su duración en más de dos horas. La presente edición contiene las copias restauradas por la Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Stiftung a las que se ha devuelto todo su metraje, ajustando la velocidad de proyección e incorporando la banda sonora original compuesta por Gottfried Huppertz, reconstruida por Bernd Heller
