Can this run games smooth on single cores or does it stutter unless you have a dual core

hey im getting a failed to load memory card error everyime i try to load a game to play,and when i do try to atleast play the game i cant seem to use my keyboard to get anywhere beyond the (do you wish to continue without a memory card menu),i dont have a contol pad yet i was wondering was that the reason?,or do i have my settings in the controller area screwed up or something? anyway thanks in advance
