Description:

TV : Drama : DVD quality : English Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy with English subtitles In 1979, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy was adapted to television as a seven-part series for the BBC, featuring Alec Guinness as George Smiley, of the SIS; the initial broadcast coincided with the British Government announcing that Anthony Blunt, the Keeper of the Queen's Pictures, was one of the Cambridge Five traitors. In the United States, the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) broadcast it as part of its "Great Performances" series, introduced by the Canadian journalist Robert MacNeil, who explained the workings of SIS. The title credits feature a matryoshka doll progressively revealing a doll more irate than the previous, with the final doll being faceless, an allusion to Winston Churchill’s describing Russia as “A riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma”; analogously, the literary George Smiley concludes that only Karla saw the last doll in the British traitor. The closing credits music, an arrangement of Nunc dimittis ("Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace") from the Book of Common Prayer (1662), was composed by Geoffrey Burgon for organ, trumpet and treble; the score earned the Ivor Novello Award for 1979. In the United States, subsequent syndicated broadcasts and DVD releases compressed the seven British episodes into six, in which scenes were shortened and the narrative sequence altered. In the British original, Smiley visits Connie Sachs before Peter Guillam's burglary of the Circus, while the US version reverses the sequence of these events. arnebrun (2011-12-27)

Someone got english subtitle while russian audio is on?

kjhgviyvoiyoi (2012-01-08)

This might have been the most pointless crap i've ever seen.

domin8v (2012-01-15)

@bunstuffe
He's right. this IS crap. The English subtitles are only for the parts that are in English. What's the point? Nevermind, you're right, the Russian parts are probably not important to the plot which revolves around uncovering a Russian spy.

slmndow (2012-05-25)

Thanks for uploading this miniserie but where is eng subtitle when czch or russian language was spoken...

terrycotta (2014-01-05)

Thank you n1996h and thank you seeders for a quick download.

Ladies, calm down.
It shows you're spoiled by today's films.
Subtitles are perfectly fine.
Do your searching, THERE ARE NO subtitles INTENDED for russian/chechoslovakian parts, that's the whole fucking idea.
If you watch further, you'll see people are referring to that moments and the secret slowly unveils.
If you really need everything translated, if you can't watch it w/o subs, I suggest you find a nice Michael Bay film and indulge yourself with russians speaking in accentuated English.
So to reiterate,
tl;dr
When this was aired in TV, russian/slovakian didn't have subtitles as well. Watch next episodes and you'll understand.

doobie69 (2014-03-07)

The new film version will come up if you spell (i.e. misspell) "tailor" as "taylor".

doobie69 (2014-03-09)

I think this substantially better than the 2011 film version, which is in itself pretty good. If you are a real fan of John le Carré, you'll want to have both. Thanks for the upload! Good quality. But very slow to download. More active seeders are needed, please!
