thanks :)

That's cause only idiots rip in .mp3 and @ audio rates over 192kbps, because the human ear can't even detect over 98% of the frequencies over 160kbps, therefore .wma provides the best size ratio --> rip quality.

manhunter098 (2008-04-13)

Not to sound like I am flaming but what exactly is so bad about mp3? Its lack of compression saves battery life on portable music devices which have tons of space these days.

Very nice up.... Cheers.

"You will definitely notice a difference between 128kbps MP3 files and 320kbps MP3 files."

sbk05 (2008-08-13)

looking forward to checking out the nest, but seriously, WMA is a terrible idea. Means I can't listen to it on anything except my computer (not my wife's iPod, nor her iBook, not my blackberry, not my DVD player).
Rip it at 192 MP3, or Hi VBR.

manhunter098: If you are not concerned about size, then by all means rip all of your CDs with a lossless codec. I am sure that I will someday, but considering the massive amounts of albums I have it would take me over 4TBs to store that much music. And battery life is not an issue these days, that argument is null.
-silhouette, sbk05: do your research children, then come back to me when you know what you're talking about. Your ideas are the horrible result of pop-media culture, not the result of any smart music enthusiast research. Hopefully you'll grow up some day in that department.

thanks for the torrent.
and for Mac users:

It's very rare I ever comment but as an audio applications programmer this just makes me itch to correct misconceptions, sorry if this sounds like ranting, it's not supposed to be:
WMA encoding is typically more efficient for low bit-rate's where some loss of quality is acceptable. For higher bit-rate's (128Kbps and above) MP3 is superior and more efficient. M4A, AAC or MP4 (or Mpeg 4 Layer 7 to be really accurate) are all the same thing and offer significant advantage over both but sadly (at present) only Apple offers serious support for the format.
As for the detection: the human ear CAN easily hear the difference between CD and 320kbps MP3 IF the speakers / headphones and playback device are of high enough quality.
The last word? Well, they're all good enough quality when encoded properly but the real issue is do you back Microsoft (WMA), Apple (M4A) or Independent development (MP3)?
In any case, cheers for the upload, we 'vote' with our download buttons after all :)

jawaligt (2009-04-08)

Excuse me?
.wma = shit. No mp3 players play it, it's quality is inferior to LAME mp3 vbr especially at higher bitrates, and its M$'s 999th ploy to force people to accept their proprietary standard through abusing their power as the dominant OS manufacturer.
They've done the same with internet explorer (anyone remember netscape?), ms office (wordperfect!), media player (winamp!), msn messenger (icq!) and just about any other type of application, from anti-virus to cd burning and from movie authoring to image manipulation.
Oh and don't get me started about low quality bitrates. I can double blind detect the difference between 160 and 192 on my iPod, and this goes all the way up to 320 when listening on a decent (> $3000 hi-fi audio system).

devilxking (2009-06-23)

Not to mention this is fucking Agalloch, brilliant shit. Rip it in mp3, preferably 320kbps please. Fuck sakes, .wma? Really?
Some of us do have stereo systems, you know.
You can hear the difference on a fucking iPod you have good quality headphones.

Simoneer (2009-11-19)

Downloaded @ 2.8MB/s at most. Took about 2 1/2 minutes to download the thing. Awesome. Thank you, seeders.
Now to hope I find the music decent.

First off thanks for the upload great band and you are making it possible for everyone to listen. I am not one to grip about audio quality or how you choose to upload your music, however this download is going to take me several hours to correct before I load it into my library. You are obviously doing this because you want to share this wonderful music, if you correct the files before uploading, it will save hundreds of hours of people having to correct your upload. Every single one of these has the song name wiped out and replaced with the CD name and a number. Each song also has no album or any other information associated to it. When you upload this to a library it lumps everything together and there’s no way to figure out the name of the songs unless you go one by one and rename it. I don't mind your argument about the .WMA but seriously everything else is non negotiable with Peer downloads, we are all a community.

Just a heads up:
This entire torrent is missing the track numbers.
