Description:

Review: It’s Finally Here… well not quite. The second studio album from Carol City, Florida rapper Flo Rida will arrive on the heals of its lead single titled Right Round, which sold over 636,000 digital copies in its first week, earning the title for biggest first week single sales in digital history! The album title “R.O.O.T.S.” is an acronym for “Route Of Overcoming The Struggle”, a reflection on Flo Rida’s trials and tribulations before dropping smash singles and inking major league deals with Poe Boy Entertainment and Atlantic Records. Besides Right Round, the album has produced another single in Shone, which features fellow Miami artist Pleasure P and production by Jim Jonsin, Dre & Vidal. The first song on the album is titled Finally Here and is a reflective track appropriately chosen to blast off Flo Rida’s sophomore album. Jump, featuring Nelly Furtado, is a high intensity dance track with Furtado singing the hook “when I say jump, you say how high… I ain’t never seen nobody-ody get so high.” Never is a lyrical track where Flo Rida delivers some clever wordplay using the word “never”. Gotta Get It (Dancer) was produced by Danja Handz and is extremely high-energy with a clubby and futuristic vibe to it. Gotta Get It will absolutely be a fan favorite track off “R.O.O.T.S.”. Touch Me is an electronic sounding jam with a robotic hook that Kesha contributes. If you haven’t heard Shone with Pleasure P yet, you must be living underneath a rock. The track has performed well on the Billboard Hot 100 and is accompanied by a music video, which was filmed in Miami. The most recent single is Sugar featuring Wynter Gordon and production by DJ Montay, which is starting to receive regular airplay. Warning: Sugar contains a sample from the Eiffel 65 song Blue (Da Ba Dee), which is one of the most annoying samples to ever find its way into a hip-hop remix. The commercial appeal is undeniable, but the track is ultra pop! R.O.O.T.S. is a refreshing departure from an otherwise extremely pop album and has more of a modern hip-hop vibe with Flo Rida rapping nicely. Mind On My Money is a decent album track with traditional southern style drum rolls and all the bells & whistles. Flo Rida teams up with Akon on the track Available, which Flo Rida has joked is aimed at letting his legions of female fans know that he is indeed single. The star power continues with Wyclef Jean collaborating on the track Rewind, which is a slower, more heartfelt anthem about turning back the hands of time. Lastly, check for a new-age r&b / hip-hip collabo with Ne-Yo, who provides supporting vocals on the catchy joint Be On You. Flo Rida has setup an album preview page where fans can stream snippets and select full versions of the album, which should drop in late March, early April via Poe Boy and Atlantic. The complete list of features includes Nelly Furtado, Pleasure P, Ne-Yo, Akon, Kesha, Wynter Gordon, and Wyclef Jean. If you’re wondering where the usual list of Flo Rida collaborators and label-mates are, rest assured that Brisco, Billy Blue, Ball Greezy, Rick Ross, Red Eyezz, Bred, Pitbull and Ace Hood all come together on the bonus track Yayo. The full production lineup includes Drumma Boy, Mike Caren & Oligee, Danja, Jim Jonsin, Dre & Vidal, Dr. Luke, DJ Montay and The Inkredibles among others. This album is gonna be huge so definitely check it out and remember who brought you the absolute first review
