mine is atheros AR5009, u packet inject a modified driver(force install) to use monitor mode but thats really just for crackn WEP , hu uses that anymore? to crack WPA u use a dictionary attack, pretty straight forward, cracked my own network in 34min

Guys, listen up. Don't try hacking wi-fi with Windows. It's way to awkward and difficult. Get BackTrack 5 .iso and burn it to a DVD or better yet, put it on a USB stick with unetbootin. And get a compatible wi-fi adapter. I recommend the Alfa USAW036H (don't get the newer "N" version, you want the exact model I just mentioned). It is a totally compatible and kick-ass USB Wi-Fi adapter and BackTrack has driver for it built-in. With BT5 and the Alfa I've cracked dozens of WEP-encrypted networks and a coupld of WPA-PSK too (as long as they were using WPS -- use Reaver for that -- included in BT5). You also should search around for "Autocrack" script. It automates the whole WEP-cracking routine... makes it simple and easy. Another script is called "Startaircrack". Have fun!

Piece of shit incompatible Atheros garbage card.. Had to replace it. Boot Linux Ubuntu from a CD, use a wifi adapter that can be switched to monitor mode(many cards CANNOT be run in monitor mode), install necessary Linux drivers to enable your hardware, and begin monitoring packets. If you can get to this point you have my support and confidence. Backtrack5 is by far the best cracking tool
