Description:

Speaks for itself, really, but Ill promote it just the same b/c the stuff needs to be heard. This phenomenal little label from Memphis, TN ended up producing, almost metaphysically, most of the greatest soul, indeed pop, records of the era in the opinion of many a critic. On top of the famous tracks by Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Booker T. and The M.G.s, Albert King, etc. there were a whole slew of unrecognized outstanding artists like Mable John, Carla Thomas, The Barkays, and William Bell who probably went unnoticed simply because they were lost in the mass of talent surrounding them. Out of the 240+ tracks here, there are only a couple that arent worth hearing. Needless to say, this is by far my favorite record/box set ever (and I own a lot of them!) Enjoy! 9 Discs, remastered and complete. Encoded in WMA lossless (VBR)

Wow!
I hope hope you plan to fully seed.

obmen (2006-03-11)

Yes, I will seed completely, as long as you have the patience for it. I have 8 meg cable but with these huge torrents it can still take a couple days!

unrhyme (2006-03-12)

Thank you for sharing, and for using the great wma format. I am seeding it now.
You wouldn't have the live album Stax-Volt did from their European tour in (I think) 1968)? I'd love to hear it again, especially that marvellous version of Green Onions.

treefrog6553 (2006-03-12)

WOW! Many thanks, Friend!

Cheers obmen,
Everything downloaded OK but I cannot play any of the .wma files. I have tried every player I can find on the web. I have tried to convert to another format but had no luck either, Audition closes down when I try to open the source file, changing the file ending doesn't work either, please advise, I'm dying to hear this stuff.

Cheers obmen,
Everything downloaded OK but I cannot play any of the >>>>>> Now I see there is another file with a similar name that has playable .wma files present. Thanks again.

Wonderful obmen - thank you! Just saw a GREAT music documentary called "Respect Yourself" - it's the complete history of Stax Records and Soulsville USA. An incredible history with much inspiring footage of the artists. Wish it were up here as a torrent. Inspired me to go back and hear the music.
