Description:

This is a backup image of the original and unmodified Windows XP Home that comes preinstalled. It is in factory condition and you will be guided through SysPrep and User Setup. All OEM software, drivers, and bloatware will also be included in this Norton Ghost image. Splashtop / QuickStart is also included but you will need a S10e and enable it in the bios to use it. I made this because there have been requests and complaints about how Lenovo does not include recovery disks. For many of the curious and adventurous people that didn't backup their drive prior to installing Linux, OS X, Windows Vista, Windows 7, etc, here is the original Windows most of you paid for. It will also work on the Linux versions of the S10e by erasing everything. The image is created for a 80GB drive but should be able to adapt to 160GB with Ghost. Instructions: 1. Extract Norton Ghost 11 with WinRAR or 7zip. 2. Burn the .iso image onto a CD with Nero or Alcohol 120%. 3. Open the self-extracting Ghost backup and extract to your USB hard drive or thumb drive. 4. Connect your USB DVD/CD drive to the S10 and turn it on. 5. Press FN + F11 for the F12 boot menu and select your CD/DVD drive. 6. Plug in your USB hard drive or thumb drive while the system is booting from the CD. 7. In the menu, select "Local" -> "Disk" -> "From Image" 8. Browse to your file you extracted earlier and put on the USB drive. 9. Click "Open" and follow the rest of the onscreen instructions. The whole process should take about 1 hour. Please seed when you're done. It will help the others that come after you. This torrent is guaranteed to be virus free. It came from a stock S10e that I bought from Lenovo which should not contain any malware. The executable archive has been scanned with both McAfee Antivirus 2009 and Norton AntiVirus 2009.

Thanks a lot for the image. However after copying the image to the hard drive following the instructions, the computer wont boot from the hard drive showing error. So I had to boot from another XP installation CD and enter into repair mode and execute the command FIXMBR. After that the computer booted from the hard drive and started a new installation. After completing everything, it works like a charm.

untrueparadox, could you let us know the details on how to make this image. I am thinking to do the same for the acer aspire one, as acer also do not provide recovery disks

Please help. I followed the instructions exactly. I am able to get into ghost, but when I go to local -> disk -> from image, it doesn't show my thumb drive. It just shows drives a: local, b:local, Lenovo ntfs, etc... I did not see a .gho file anywhere. How come ghost can't see my thumb drive? I plug it in while it's booting from the cd drive....

having the same problem using a new cruzer with u3 wiped off it in FAT 32. only see local drive a and b

Thanks for uploading and seeding this torrent.
Is a DVD-drive required for this or can I do it all from a thumb drive? I have an 8 GB and i've used it to install Windows 7, Linux, etc. but will it work with Norton Ghost?

cant i just burn the image to a DVD and boot from a DVD in Norton Ghost to install the OS as i dont have a big enough USB pen ???

FIXMBR worked for me as well after no boot-up. Thanks!

PS - you are a life-saver. Thanks so much for going to the trouble to provide this (since we all know Lenovo does not). Cheers

Hi
I downloaded and followed all your steps. Everything seems to work fine until restart after using Ghost. After that I aonly have a blinking cursor on black screen.
I tryed twice with the same result. Am I missing something?

Thank you very much for this! A few points to make for those having trouble installing. First, do NOT use a SanDisk Cruzer USB drive to put the .GHO image on. For some reason, they do not work, even after reformatting. Also, after restoring the image to your drive (I used a new 250GB drive-worked flawlessly) you may get the blank screen with a blinking cursor. You will need to run a repair tool for the master boot record (MBR). You can use FixMBR off of any XP install disk. Boot to the disk and enter the repair console. You can also use any of the MBR tools found on Hirens CD. After fixing, you will have a fresh copy of the S10e factory installed XP. Once again, thanks to untrueparadox for his work.

Thanks for the files. I got the files downloaded but having trouble installing it. I was able to install the ghost image, and I got the blinking cursor. I used a Windows XP SP2 CD to boot the computer, and went into the Repair Console, under C:\Windows, I typed FIXMBR. It told me that "this computer appears to have a non-standard or invalid master bot record....." I answered Y to write a new MBR. It told me a new master boot record has been successfully written. The computer reboot and seems to load the Ramdisk files. However the windows would not boot up. I am not sure where I am doing wrong. I reloaded quite a few time but it does not work. Please help.

I managed to get it to work with an 8GB Sandisk Cruzer. You have to have the Cruzer plugged in when you turn on the system. Thank you for the upload!
