Description:
ISO image of retail copy of Mac OS 9.2.1 install CD. This installs OS 9.2.1 on all G3 PowerMacs and G3 iMacs, and some early G4 models. For more details, see this page:

This ISO file has been compressed with bzip2, a free and open-source compression utility. Mac OS X and Linux already have the unzip utilities built in. You can download a free unzipper for Windows at http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/bzip2.htm
INSTRUCTIONS: First unzip the file using bunzip2. Next, BURN THE ISO TO A CD. Mounting the ISO on your machine is pointless. First of all, if you are in Windows or Linux, it won't even mount because it is an ISO of a Mac-formatted CD. If you are in OS X, it won't do any good to mount it because the installer only runs in OS 9. You have to use the image to burn a CD, and then use the CD to boot your vintage Mac, and then install the software.
For information about updating to 9.2.2, see this:

I compressed it because the file is over 600MB uncompressed! That's a waste of bandwidth. Also, what's so difficult about extracting it? I gave instructions!exeon_Zechs (2009-06-15)
bz2 is a common archive format, and the majority of Operating Systems support it out of the box. (Mac, Linux, and all its distros) Other, more hard headed operating systems, have utilities available. I think 7zip supports bz2 as well, but I can't remember for sure. Would you complain it was hard to extract because it was in .rar format, because your OS doesn't ship with the tools to open that common archive format, too?sk8rcat123 (2009-06-20)

Doesn't boot on a G4 Cube. Missing drivers for the Cube (when booted from CD, a Floppy Disk with a Question Mark on it flashes). Should work on older machines, but I haven't tested.zXyy33 (2010-02-11)
@u235meltdownI got the same thing on an iMac 350MHz, a floppy with a question mark. Then again, my burn application said the disc failed the verify. Sometimes this happens with my gear, but then it works. I'll try the ISO again with another CD and post back any details after a verification success... I hope :-/
